I read this gripping page turner when I was on  holidays recently.  I loved it but I have a confession to make before I can recommend it – I’m a bit of a sucker for Hitchcock style suspense.  I know that those old thrillers were not at all believable but I really do not care.  They just draw me in every time.

The cover of this book likens it to “Rear Window”.  The similarities are obvious.

Bailie Carpenter was a brave and adventurous soul before a severe trauma rendered her largely housebound.

While trapped in her own home, she starts watching a neighbour who appears to be violently abusing his girlfriend.  Despite reporting her insights to police, there are serious doubts about whether she is a reliable witness.  Have the events she believes she has witnessed happened at all?  Is she going crazy?

In many ways, I loved this book even more than Rear Window.  It kept me guessing until the end.

Having said that, I would not recommend this book if you like plot lines that reflect real life.  I can already imagine my book club buddies telling me just how implausible the whole thing is.  I don’t disagree.  I just loved it for a bit of a lark.

Happy Easter reading.
