Well after my recent European holiday, I discovered there is simply no good coffee in France or the UK. Well perhaps an exaggeration, but I simply did not find any.

What a relief to return to Australian shores and turn on the home coffee machine.

Whilst away I was wishing I could get a good cup of coffee from one of my local haunts back home.

I decided to write a blog about my 5 favourite coffee shops in Brisbane. Soon realising I could not narrow it down to simply 5, I thought I would broaden the number. Again which to choose? So, instead I am going to provide my regular coffee shop recommendations over a series of blogs.

This week my thoughts turn to the Farm House at Kedron, on Brisbane’s north side. Sitting in a suburban street, the Farm House is a delightful spot. The cafe took over the premises which once housed a local grocer, Farmer Joes. The cafe retains Farmer Joe’s farmhouse charm. The draw card is not only its wonderful coffee, smoothies and juices (think lemon, ginger, pear and pineapple), but the amazingly delicious food on offer.

As Australia is currently rallying to support its farmers, the Farm House is a constant supporter of local and regional producers with its stated aim of taking the food from the farm to the plate.

I had the joy of a lovely brunch at the Farm House a few weekends ago. Both myself and my friend enjoyed the ricotta hotcakes with kaffir lime curd, ginger syrup, berries, toasted coconut and locally churned vanilla bean ice cream. The savoury dishes on offer are as equally memorable, ie. rigatoni with black onyx beef and red wine ragu.

A great cafe to consider for brunch this weekend but be sure to ring and make a booking as it is always very busy.

5 of out of 5 stars from me.
