Usually car accidents are just that – accidents.

Unfortunately, we do sometimes see situations like this where people use their vehicle as a weapon.

I have had clients who have been rammed in the course of their employment, like this police officer, parking inspectors and traffic controllers.  Domestic violence can also spill over onto the road.

Compulsory Third Party insurance is a compensatory system.  That means that damages are calculated based on what you have lost.  It is not designed to punish the person responsible for your injury no matter how careless they may have been.

If you have been injured as a result of another person’s deliberate act – you can sometimes recover “punitive” damages.  These are damages which must be paid by the person responsible directly.  It is designed to punish the person – like a fine only payable to you rather than the government.

Stay safe!
